Introduction

Mike (ミケ, Mike) is a supporting character of the Nanbaka Web Manga series. He is an inmate of building 2, and the cellmate of Hachi and Tora, who are also his brothers and share the moniker of Three-Eyed Cat with him. He participated in the New Year's Butoukai[1].

Appearance[]

Mike is a young man with beige, orange and black hair, similar to that of a calico cat. His hair extends into a cat tail. He has yellow eyes.

Mike is seen wearing a white button-down with a navy vest with breast pockets on either side accompanied by a blue bow tie with white polka dots. In the centre of the bow tie is a golden colored button displaying his inmate number.

Personality[]

Mike is conniving and scheming; traits he shares with his brothers. He isn't very strong, and thus uses underhanded methods to cheat and take advantage of rules. He also has a tendency to pretend to be meek and shy, to let people lower their guard around him.[1][2]

Background[]

Alongside his two brothers, Mike forms the Three-Eyed Cat, a trio of thieves that target only cash. As such, they are also known to go after banks. At some point in the past, they were captured and eventually moved to Nanba Prison, where they were kept in the same cell, in Building 2.

At some point before the Main Cell 13's transfer to Nanba Prison, Mike and his brothers participated in the same New Year's Tournament Kusatsu and Fuji-san won. They made it all the way to the Final Round of the Sake Opening, and used dirty tricks and blind spots to get the upper hand.[2]

Plot[]

Part Four[]

Mike is first mentioned before the New Year's Butoukai, when Uno goes to Fuji-san for information on possible other participants in the upcoming tournament. Fuji-san informs Uno about the three, who he had encountered in his own New Year's Tournament.[2]

He appears in person right before the New Year's Butoukai starts, when all the inmates are preparing in separate waiting rooms for every building. He and his siblings get Kotetsu Nikaidou to escort them to Building 13, Cell 13's waiting room, where they play at being shy fans of Cell 13 to flatter them. Once out of Cell 13's sights, they change their tune immediately and start gloating about how easy it will be to beat them.

New Year's Butoukai: Event 1[]

During the first event, Mike and his brothers play dirty as they always do, and target the boat at the back to cull the weakest inmates. This boat belongs to Tengu (Murakami), who doesn't fight, but instead calls Yamada Orochi to fight on his behalf. Mike and his brothers get stuck to a wall by sticky ink thrown by Orochi and his Snake Brush[3], and have to call on Taiga Nikaidou to free them using water to dilute the ink, and leaving them to fall into the water of the river[4].

After that, they decide to target Cell 13. At first, they throw a gas bomb to lower their visibility. Then, Mike pretends to be drowning while his brothers stand on the boat and pretend they can't swim and need Cell 13's help to rescue him. When Nico, Rock, and Jyugo jumped to save him, a net set by Mike and his siblings traps them all. Uno, however, picks up on the trap as both Tora and Hachi were also still soaked from their dunk after their run-in with Orochi, and doesn't take the bait.[5] The rest of Cell 13 breaks out of the net, and attacks the siblings. However, Mike and the other two act quickly and steal Cell 13's special items. They make fun of these items and belittle their importance, which angers Cell 13 (sans Jyugo) to the point of throwing them into the air[6]. Tora recovers from the hit, to destroy Cell 13's boat, but neither Mike nor Hachi are seen recovering. Cell 13 then steals their boat, and Mike and his brothers are eliminated in the First Event[7].

New Year's Butoukai: Day One End Dinner[]

After the second event, all participating inmates - including those who were eliminated - have dinner together, and get to converse casually. Tora is present, and mentions that Mike and Hachi are receiving medical treatment. They haven't returned for a long while, and Tora isn't being allowed to see them. In the same chapter, other inmates that were hurt and also shared togabito characteristics are mentioned as having gone missing, too.[8]

Trivia[]

  • Mike's item was a slingshot.
    • His aim with it isn't impeccable.
  • Mike is the younger brother of the trio.
  • Mike's one unusual attribute appears to be his cat-like characteristics, which could be what classifies him as a togabito.
