Damian (ダミアン Damian) is a supporting character in the Nanbaka Web Manga. He is the head supervisor of Nanba Prison's Building 6. Much of Damian's appearance and name references multiple horror films.
Appearance[]
Damian is a very tall, dark-skinned man of above-average height. Frankenstein-like stitches are present all around his neck. He wears a classic hockey mask with small eye holes and breathing holes. The mask has two small red triangles pointing towards the eye-holes and one between the mask's brows.
Damian's Nanba uniform is standard with its basic black hat, coat with a name tag on the left breast, white dress shirt, red necktie, black pants, and boots. Two gold bones form an "X" on the front of his cap, as well as one gold bone on both sides of the white dress shirt. Keeping with the Frankenstein theme, the seams of the jacket are lined with larger stitching. The gold ornamentation on his shoulders is also reminiscent of gold stitches.
A white armband is displayed on his left arm with the number '6' in black to define the building he is in charge of.
Compared to the other Nanba staff, Damian's appearance is much less tidy; the brim of his cap has a chip in it, he wears his neck tie very loosely, and in the Manga, his necktie is partially torn.
In the manga, Damian has multiple silver ear piercings on his left ear. These piercings are not present in the anime.
Personality[]
Damian is timid, fearful and shy to the extent that according to Shin Sauzando, he's even scared of himself. He's also very apologetic, worrying and kind, such as when he quickly apologised for accidentally scaring Uno. When Momoko Hyakushiki announced that she was going to part from Nanba Prison for a short period of time, he showed immediate concern about who he was supposed to take orders from and grew apprehensive at the idea of everything being left to his discretion[3]. He shows mutual respect to his fellow colleagues, and has a fondness for food.
Background[]
Damian was responsible for the designing and construction of Building 6, which was meant to be themed after delicious food. However, misunderstandings arose from his generally fearsome appearance, and the building came out looking like a haunted mansion, the cap emblem got turned into a skull and crossbones, and the Building became known as the Building of Fear. This distresses him greatly.
Plot[]
While Damian arrives late, he loudly shrieks and asks Komachi why his building gets screams as verification sounds every day and says they are scary. Komachi says that it was a woman's voice this time, but he says it isn't the point.[4]
Building 6 Arc[]
On Chimney Harminc's recommendation, Damian invites Building 13's Cell 13 to Building 6 for the Food Tasting Event[5].
Trivia[]
- Damian's design is very likely a reference to the Friday The 13th franchise's main antagonist, Jason Voorhees.
- His favourite food is beef with green bell peppers[6].
- His favourite drink is tomato juice.
- His verification sounds are screams[4].
- The symbol for its building supposed to be a pair of crossed cutlery pieces, but upon seeing him, the designer changed the symbol to a pair of crossed bones.
- His prison building was supposed to be more cute and friendly, but the designer, upon seeing him and V, designer changed the design to be more horror-inspired.
