Akua Jyuunoichi (Jyuunoichi Akua,十ノ老亜宮亜) is a supporting character in the Nanbaka Web Manga. He's the leader of Squad 11 in the Zodiac Police.
Appearance[]
Akua is a dark-skinned and slim young man. He has brown eyes and long blue hair with the imprint of scales on them. On his left deltoid is a blue tattoo of a star with two zigzagging lines across it. He wears shorts, elbow pads with patches torn in them, knee pads with green stones, and fingerless gloves − all of which are black. He has a gold star pinned to the left breast of his shirt, and the Zodiac Police insignia where a belt buckle would be.
Personality[]
Akua is a confident person, almost leading into cockiness. When he's being shot at, he's certain of his equipment's quality and shows no sign of being afraid.[1] Despite being a Squad Leader in the Zodiac Police, Akua isn't a particularly motivated member, barely ever accepting jobs and calling missions bothersome. This is to the point that Uoza gets suspicious when Akua tags along to a mission with him.[2] When he's properly dedicated to a task, he becomes quite serious about seeing it through to the end. He's not above shooting targets or their associates to get the job done.[1] Usually when he gets serious about a mission, it's because he's got personal stake in it, such as when he developed a vendetta against Shiki for killing his friend and crush Jeni Sandra.
When having to fight properly with an opponent on his level, Akua becomes worked up and loses his levity. His goals matter to him a lot, and he's insulted when others don't treat the situation as such[3]. Akua isn't completely incapable of sympathizing with people he disagrees with. He's willing to admit that he understood Kojiro's philosophy of wanting to protect his own world, and couldn't fault him for that, even though they disagreed.[4]
He cares a lot about people, but doesn't like to admit it. While he had a crush on Jeni, he never says it out loud, even when he was going after Shiki members to avenge her murder. When he sees the climax of Ikkaku and Uoza's fight from afar, he doesn't admit to being worried, though Kojiro realizes that he is.[5] When Akua and Uoza start protecting Sophia Valentine, he claims to only be doing it for the money, but is quick to show her little acts of kindness, such as buying her crepes.[6]
Background[]
Akua's mother died of an illness a short period of time after he was born, and his biological father was a fisherman who died in a storm when Akua was very young. He was brought into the Zodiac Police by Leon Faiburg. There, he met Uoza Jyuunoji, who had lost his family in a boating accident too. The man began helping him, seeing Akua as the son he had lost. Akua eventually began calling him "dad".[5]

Akua and Uoza help rescue Ram and Sophia when they jump off the Nanba ship during their escape from the World Administration Authority.[7] Together, they escort the two to where Mikadzuki is hiding out with Rokudo. Afterwards, when everyone parts ways, Akua and Uoza take over guarding Sophia. Akua claims to only be doing it for the money to rebuild and maintain his equipment, but he also goes out of his way to buy Sophia crepes after hearing she's never had any.[6]

Uoza Jyuunoji[]
Orphaned at a young age and spending his early years in the Zodiac Police, Uoza became Akua's father figure. Whether he's been legally adopted is unknown, but Akua calls Uoza "dad".[5] Even once he grows older, the two still work closely together and have similar reticence on doing missions[2][8]. Uoza is a bit more carefree than Akua, who chides him when he accidentally brings up sore subjects for other people. Akua acts aloof and disgruntled most of the time, but he truly respects Uoza and his decisions.[4]
Jeni Sandra[]
Jeni and Akua were somewhat close. She customized a weapon specifically for Akua, despite her sister not approving of it.[2] He had a crush on her, but it didn't appear to be reciprocated as she was always more enamored with Tauro. After Mei and Ido killed Jeni, Akua swore vengeance against them and Shiki. Even when they were exhausted and had recently lost a fight, Akua was still willing to fight Mei and Ido.[4]
